Dear NAHJ Familia,

I write to you with a heavy heart. Former President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Cecilia Alvear passed away yesterday afternoon. She was my mentor and advisor, but most importantly she was my friend. She helped me from the moment I joined NAHJ as a student member in 2004, until she couldn’t anymore because of her battle with breast cancer.
