By now you have probably heard that our friend, colleague, and HCDFW member Jay Torres has passed away.
He was someone that made our organization one of the best NAHJ chapters in the country. Jay gave much of his time, passion, love, and devotion to HCDFW’s mission.
As president of this chapter, I could always count on him. He would never want to turn away anything I asked him to do.
On Monday, Jay was found dead in Garland. Police say he was shot in his upper body, they are still investigating his homicide.
For now, we as members of this organization will remember the great memories Jay leaves behind with all of us.
I am sure you are heartbroken and in shock as I feel today. But Jay would want us to move forward and not only find out what happened to him, but also continue our work as journalists. Please pray for his family who is grieving tonight.
Sincerely,
Karina Ramirez,
HCDFW President
