HCDFW PROGRAMS
In keeping with the mission of Hispanic Communicators DFW, HCDFW programs aim to promote, advocate, and support Latinos in media by:
- creating leadership opportunities to lead conversations while serving as speakers and moderators
- developing programming that encourages knowledge sharing, industry awareness, and professional development
- providing platforms that bring the community together to celebrate and elevate each other
To do this, we've created platforms to broaden engagement, create opportunities to highlight the members' skills, grow portfolios, and showcase subject-matter expertise.
HCDFW ANNUAL PROGRAM
Annual programs are available to members, business leaders, academics, and students. These programs bring together the DFW community of Hispanic media and communications professionals for an evening of dinner, celebration, and fundraising. Activities include guest speakers, scholarship awards presentations, select dining experiences, raffles, and auctions. Learn more about the 2023 event.
HCDFW ARCHIVES
As part of the 40th Anniversary of Hispanic Communicators DFW, the board of directors worked to identify how to best preserve the history of the organization in the form of event programs, newsletters, photos, invitations, and meeting minutes created and distributed by previous board members.
Led by founding member and 2023 Hall of Fame inductee Diana Marquis and 2006 Hall of Fame inductee Gilbert Bailón, both previous HCDFW presidents, the committee set out to identify where to best archive the HCDFW records. The committee selected The University of Texas at Arlington Special Collections Library for its proximity to the organization's efforts, existing Hispanic Serving Institution designation, its Center for Mexican-American Studies program and dedicated archival support.
Efforts are ongoing and more will be shared as digital content becomes available.
HCDFW CONVERSATIONS + NETWORKING
The program consists of an hour-long conversation with an industry leader to discuss trends, historical impact, and executive-level insight, followed by networking. Speakers have included award-winning and legacy journalists with more than 20 years covering local and global news.
HCDFW HALL OF FAME
The HCDFW Hall of Fame program recognizes contributions to journalism and communications in the DFW market. Selected by past presidents of Hispanic Communicators DFW, recipients are nominated based on their contributions to the DFW Network via any of the following criteria: organizational leadership, volunteerism above and beyond, historical impact, community outreach, professional mentorship, donor relations, or program development impacting current events during their respective terms. The first Hall of Fame recipients were selected in 2006. See list of winners.
HCDFW MENTORS WITH KRISTIN DIAZ
The monthly program, led by Kristin Diaz, a KRLD Radio reporter and member of HCDFW, is designed to support Hispanic students and early-career professionals who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism and communications. The program provides a platform for working professionals to share their personal journeys as first-generation professionals, their experiences adapting to secondary and advanced educational programs, and navigating early-career growing pains.
