THE PRODUCER’S CHALLENGE

This session is designed to assist participants in becoming better writers, producers and managers. On Saturday, December 7, CNN’s Ramon Escobar will conduct the daylong session during the NAHJ Region 5 conference at the Fairmont Dallas.

Escobar is the  Vice President of Talent Recruitment & Development at CNN.  He has an extensive background in television news.

WHAT THE SESSION HAS TO OFFER

It is a privilege and an enormous responsibility to produce news programs. A show producer is entrusted with deciding the content of the program. It is challenging to determine which stories make it, decide the most effective presentation, shape the showcasing and marketing of programs, and work with in-house and field crews effectively. It’s also one of the most challenging jobs in any television newsroom and one of the hardest positions to fill.

The interactive, daylong session will include in-depth examination of submitted newscasts, discussions on how to prepare for advancement from producer to executive producer, how to have difficult conversations and general networking tips. Leaders from the broadcast news industry will join as special guests to provide their insights.

Each producer will leave with a better understanding of how to create more compelling newscasts.
