Saludos a todos. Hard to believe that we are approaching the end of 2013. But that doesn’t mean we are slowing down. We have a lot of exciting things planned to wrap up the year.
First off, we are currently accepting nominations for all board positions. Recently, we voted to change the bylaws and that opened up more opportunities for our members.
In the past, only working journalists were able to hold leadership positions in our group. Not anymore.
We are a diverse group made up of journalists, public relations/marketing professionals and social media experts. We are communicators. As a result, we want to give everyone a chance to serve on our board.
The positions include: President, Vice President(s), Secretary/Treasurer, Social Media Manager and Spanish Language at Large. For a detailed look at the positions, requirements–click here for information. Remember the deadline to submit nominations is September 30th. The election will be held Monday Oct. 7th.
We are also planning the NAHJ Region 5 Conference on Dec. 6-7 at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas. We are not ready to announce our keynote speaker yet but you will want to save the date. We are planning some exciting sessions and opportunities for you to network and meet a variety of recruiters.
Finally, a big congratulations to Olmar Vanegas from our University of North Texas chapter. He was recently elected as the NAHJ national student representative. Best of luck to Olmar.
