DALLAS, Texas – (August 4, 2023) — Hispanic Communicators DFW (HCDFW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the positive representation and influence of Hispanic professionals in media and communications fields, has been recognized as the recipient of the 2023 National Chapter Cup by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
The National Chapter Cup is awarded annually to an outstanding NAHJ chapter that meets or exceeds standards set forth by the national body in the areas of education and networking, membership growth, annual elections, scholarship program, and fundraising while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to empowering Hispanic voices and advocating for more Latinos in newsrooms. The Cup was presented during the recent NAHJ National Conference in Miami.
“The volunteers of this organization have consistently worked to provide access to 4-year college and university scholarships, opportunities to network, develop professional skills, and organize mentorship opportunities for students, working journalists, and communications professionals,” said Magda Salazar, president of Hispanic Communicators DFW. “Our past and current members have worked hard to achieve this honor that further motivates our efforts,” added Salazar.
To date, HCDFW has raised over $430,000 and awarded more than 300 scholarships to 309 students of journalism and communications. Hispanic Communicators DFW has been active in supporting more Latinos in newsrooms, in decision-making positions in media outlets, and authentically representing the share of voice and stories of more than 42% Hispanics in Dallas County, 35% in Fort Worth, 30% in Arlington, and 23% in Denton (U.S. Census Bureau).
