About the Bert Lozano Scholarship

Bert Lozano believed in helping Latino students reach their goals in life.
HCDFW started a scholarship in 2015 in honor of Bert Lozano, a former reporter at KRGV, KSAT, and WFAA -TV. He was also a Vice President at Weber Shandwick in Dallas. Lozano passed away in 2011.
Past HCDFW President Saul Garza worked with Lozano at KRGV-TV in the Rio Grande Valley in the 1990’s. He has many good memories of his friend and fellow journalist “Bert loved to have fun, loved telling stories, and always encouraged other Latino students to pursue their dreams. He would be ecstatic to know that a scholarship in his name is helping future communicators reach their dreams.”
Each year, Hispanic Communicators DFW partners with the Bert Lozano family and DFW organizations to award one student a scholarship between $2,500-$5,000 to a school of their choice. Since 2017, the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation has served as major donor to the scholarship fund.
To join a community working to honor a journalism leader and ensure a path to higher education for future journalism and communications professionals, contact Hispanic Communicators DFW President Rebecca Lopez by email at hcdfwboard@hcdfw.org.
